Oh Medium! Whenceforth shall we partner?

I have been writing on Medium since Feb 2020. I have written 47 articles already, some having stellar views and significant engagement.

And although, Indian authors are still not eligible to become a part of the partner program (that elusive milestone), for some reason, I am still motivated to write on Medium.

Although, I admit, there are quite a few blog sites where I could publish articles — such as Ghost, Substack and LogRocket, I still choose to publish articles on Medium.

Maybe its the simplicity of the interface, the number of users on the platform, or simply because there is some satisfaction to be had from publishing articles seamlessly.

Whatever the case may be, I love writing articles on Medium.

But the one disappointment I have and will continue to have is — Not being eligible for the partner program, just because I am based out of India.

After announcing that the Partner program would be extended to Authors in India on October 1 2023, the partner program seems to have been delayed indefinitely. And there seem to be no updates on when the program will be available in India.

To be honest, its not about the money. As authors we anticipate that the earnings we might get from writing stories won’t be significant enough to take care of household expenses.

It isn’t that at all!

Its more like us getting the feeling of being left out. A lot of us Authors write articles painstakingly and diligently; There is passion in the way we write and I am not necessarily speaking for myself but for other, more established and capable Indian authors whose articles are cherished and shared in various groups.

Our articles make an impact and this is all great for Medium. But what about us?

So this is my appeal. Accord us the dignity of of joining the partner program already? I feel like we might have earned it.
